1. What is smartphone photography?

We all use our smartphone for photographing different things. In this lesson we are going to talk about some popular styles of smartphone photography so we can think about, what photographs you like to capture, this will help you develop and enhance your own style while opening up a world new world of shooting possibilities.

We will explore the components and features on your smartphone and learn how to set up your smartphone to get the best possible images at the highest quality.

2. Seeing the world through your smartphone

Smartphone cameras, like all cameras give us view of the world which is much different to how we see with our eyes.

In this lesson, we are going to look at how your smartphone camera sees the world differently to how you see the world and how we can gain control of that view. We will talk about the difference between digital and optical zooming, explore focus and gain insight into the types of subject your smartphone camera can best capture. We will also discuss, how light forms the image that we capture with our smartphones.

3. How to compose the perfect shot

In this lesson we will develop the creative side of our smartphone photography by exploring composition. We will expand our creative potential by mastering compositional techniques, such as, rule of thirds, leading lines and angle of view.

Developing strong compositional skills that can help you increase the impact of your photographs and create stunning images that will draw the viewer into the picture. To complete the lesson, we will look at some smartphone applications that will allow us to shoot Panoramas and 360 degree photos.

4. Next level composition

In this lesson, we will delve deeper in the subject of composition we will build on the compositional techniques we learned in lesson three and give you the skills and knowledge to take your images to the next level. We will look at how we can add drama to a shot, how little things like the shape of the photo can have big impact, and how to emphasize things like size and colour using different elements within the image. We will also discuss how only showing your best work will affect how good a photographer people think you are.

5. #selfie - The self portrait

Taking photographs of people is one of the things a smartphone excels at. In this lesson we will explore all the possibilities for photographing people, whether it’s families, candids or formal / informal portraits, and we couldn't do a smartphone camera course without talking about selfies. We will talk about different styles of selfies and equip you with the skills to use your smartphone for taking some really beautiful portraits.

6.Taking full control

Exposure is all about getting the right level of brightness and capturing the light as you saw it at the time. Exposure is one of the most important subjects in smartphone photography to create strong consistent images for every single type of shot.

If you ever a photographed a snow scene that came out looking muddy and grey or photographed a darker scene that was disappointing compared to how it looked when you took the shot, then this lesson on exposure is a real lightbulb moment.

Exposure is the key to controlling light and mastering exposure and will give you full control over your smartphone photography.

7. Social Media #nofilter

The big attraction of smartphone photography is the ability to share your images. You can take an image and share it with the world in seconds. Whether it's to share your pictures with friends and family by email or join photography communities and connect with other photographers and people with the same interests. In this lesson we will learn how to utilise various social media platforms and look at ways to get more people to see your photos and increase your likes and follows.

8.Creative enhancement

Today, there is nearly as much interest in editing and enhancing pictures as there is in taking the photos. In this lesson we are going to explore creative enhancements with some mobile photo editing apps, we are going to start with basic adjustments like exposure correction, cropping and colour temperature through artistic adjustments with filters to impressive creative enhancements.

Master these skills will transform your images and give them a dramatic edge.

You can participate using your own computer via the internet, both Windows and Mac devices will surfice.

You can access recordings via your student log in area found in menu tab.

Live lessons are not essential in order to pass diploma courses. You can view the recordings in your own time.

What is the duration of one webinar?

It lasts approximately 1 hour, not including questions and answers at the end of the live sessions.

What if I miss the lecture? Will I be able to catch up?

That's no problem. We also record each lecture as we broadcast them. We make these videos available to you within 24 hours of each lecture concluding and you will have unlimited access to the videos for up to 12 days after the entire course has been completed.

Are there any assignments?

We provide you with weekly quizzes in order to self-assess your progress. These are completely voluntary and a fantastic revision tool. Only live courses have weekly quizzes.

Upon course completion a final assignment will be made available. There is a €5 administration charge for non-members to complete the final assignment and receive the certificate. All certificates are free for members.
