Looking at different options from the phone to consumer cameras to pro cinema cameras and what you can achieve with them.
This lesson breaks down how video is captured in our cameras and looks at an important aspect of video essential to our understanding of it – Frames per second. Saving our footage can be confusing and daunting as there are so many formats that we choose, so which is the right one? This lesson covers this in depth so that you know what to choose every time, whether you are putting a video on YouTube or planning a projection!
Have you ever wondered how filmmakers capture a sense of scale in their shots, or can get up close and personal to a subject? Lenses allow use to control what we want to viewer to see. This lesson covers the different lenses used and also covers how we can control the volume of Light in a scene using the Aperture. This also controls the depth of field in a scene, allowing shallow focus or sharpness all the way to the farthest point in a scene.
A huge part of shooting a successful video is planning. Envisioning our movie before we even switch the camera on will help us to create more cohesive movies. This lesson looks at planning our scenes and understanding compositional techniques. Movement is the biggest difference to composition from our still images so this is a new skill we must learn to master and is also covered in this lesson.
Colour temperature is massively important to successful continuity in our videos. Incorrect White balance will mean incorrect colours so this lesson covers how to get it correct every time. This goes hand in hand with lighting, as a correctly lit scene can influence the atmosphere and mood of a shoot greatly!
In this hugely important lesson, with all this knowledge it is now time to bring all of it together and take control of the camera rather than the camera making decisions for us. Shooting fully manual gives you total creative control over the scenes you are shooting. Shutter, aperture and ISO all come together and having manual control gives you total creative control over movies!
Sound is 50% of our movies. It is massively important to how a movie/interview/scene works. Without audio we have nothing to work with. It also looks at the importance or audio and how to begin to sync the audio with video for a refined product.
